Random Name Picker

Type or paste a list of names, one per line, and spin. Wherever the pointer on the right of the wheel stops is the name that gets picked. It takes a few seconds, everyone in the room can watch it happen, and nobody can say the choice was rigged.

Most people land here for one of three reasons: a teacher who wants to stop calling on the same five hands, a team lead handing out a job nobody volunteers for, or a group that needs to decide who goes first. The wheel works the same for all of them, but a few settings make each one smoother.

Picking one person after another

If you need to work through a whole list, such as everyone presenting once or each person getting a turn, switch on auto-remove in the winner window. Each name drops off the wheel after it wins, so nobody gets picked twice and the last person standing is decided for you.

Prefer to decide case by case? Leave auto-remove off and use the Remove button only when you want to. The Results tab keeps a running list of every winner in order, which is handy when you need to say later who went when.

Getting a long class or team list in quickly

You can paste straight from a spreadsheet column or a chat message: each line becomes one segment. Shuffle mixes the order so the colors do not follow the alphabet, and Sort A-Z puts it back. There is no fixed cap on how many names you add, although labels get smaller as the wheel fills up, so for very large groups it can be clearer to split into two wheels.

Your list is saved in your browser, so it is still there next lesson. To hand the same wheel to someone else, use Copy link: the names travel inside the link, with no account needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the same name be picked twice?

Yes, unless you remove it. Every spin is independent, so a name that just won has the same chance as everyone else next time. Turn on auto-remove if each person should be picked only once.

Is the pick actually random?

The stopping point is set by your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for security keys, and every segment is the same size. Each name has an equal chance on every spin.

Can I give someone a better chance?

Add their name twice. Each line is its own segment, so a name entered twice takes up twice the space on the wheel and is twice as likely to be picked.

Do my names get uploaded anywhere?

Your list is kept in your own browser. It only leaves your device if you choose to share it with Copy link, in which case the names are written into that link.
