Color Picker Wheel

Spin for a random color when you need to break a tie, assign colors to people or teams, or get unstuck on a creative project. The defaults are eight common colors; replace them with any names you like, from Navy Blue to Coral.

It is used by art teachers setting a challenge, designers stuck between palette options, and groups handing out team colors or game pieces.

Creative prompts and art challenges

In an art lesson or a personal sketch challenge, spin for a color that has to feature in today's piece, or spin twice for a main color and an accent. Constraints like this are a reliable way past a blank page, because they take one decision off the table.

Designers use it the same way when two or three palette options are all acceptable and the debate has gone on long enough. Spin, commit, and move on to the parts of the design that matter more.

A note on segment colors

The segment colors come from the color scheme you choose in Customize, not from the words you type, so a segment labelled Red will not necessarily be red. If you want each segment to show its actual color, add a small image of that color to each segment in Customize. It takes a minute and makes the wheel easier to read for younger children.

How to use the color picker wheel

Add color names (one per line)—use defaults or custom like "Navy Blue" or "Coral." Click the wheel to spin and randomly select a color. Great for breaking ties in design decisions.

How does the color picker wheel work?

Add your color options and spin. Each color has an equal chance. Uses cryptographic randomness. Perfect for unbiased color selection in design, games, or teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add my own colors?

Yes. Type any color names, one per line, and remove the defaults you do not need.

Why is the Red segment not red?

Segment colors follow the color scheme you pick, so the wheel stays readable. To show the real color, add a swatch image to that segment in Customize.

Can I use hex codes?

Yes. Any text works as an entry, so you can list codes such as #FF6B6B. The wheel shows the text, not the color itself.

Can I assign colors to several people without repeats?

Turn on auto-remove and spin once per person. Each color leaves the wheel once it has been given out.
